Why it’s important for parents to reach out first.
School buses on the roads, tax free days at the mall and school supplies EVERYWHERE can mean only one thing … school is about to start up again and for some teachers hunting season for students begins. WHAT? It’s true; too often parents trust schools and teachers to do the “right thing” 100 % of the time. For the most part schools do in fact, the right thing but that is because parents have taken an active role in the educational lives of their students. This means parents should not wait until “meet the teacher” afternoons or “Open House” evenings to reach out. Send an email on the first day of school to say hello. Let your students teachers know a few things about yourself like what language is spoken at home, what contact email and phone number you wish for them to use, and any specific information that you find important. It is when parents do not reach our first that students fall through cracks, language barriers arise and favoritism appears. Don’t allow your child to become a statistic, help them become a leader!
