A hurricane that strikes unexpectedly. A notice of eviction or foreclosure. A domestic violence situation that divides a family. There are just some of the things that affect the lives of people every single day, and Central Florida is no exception. For nearly 30 years, The Mustard Seed has been right there to help families rebuild their lives and get back to a sense of normalcy.
Established in 1984, The Mustard Seed of Central Florida is a non-profit furniture and clothing bank with the purpose of helping the most vulnerable persons and families in our community as they begin to re-establish a home in the aftermath of a personal tragedy or natural disaster by providing furniture, clothing, and other household necessities to those who demonstrate the desire to rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient. Through our specific referral process, people displaced from their home can come to The Mustard Seed warehouse and choose from everyday household items such as couches, sofas, chairs, linens, bedding, and clothing for the entire family to get back to re-establish their lives.
And now, we’re entering a new phase of stewardship with new programs that contribute to sustainability, recycling and going green. Through the Must Go Green Partnership, The Mustard Seed has begun connecting with local businesses, apartment complexes, and hotels to help our community by participating in a recycling program to save our fragile ecosystem. In addition, we assist our business partners with Green Certification and tax incentives. Furthermore, The Mustard Seed is beginning a new Mattress Recycling program that also contributes to the efforts of many local hotels and resorts. By doing so, these hotels can properly dispose of mattress they are no longer using, and The Mustard Seed gains revenue from recycling these used mattresses.
We look forward to contributing to LATINOlinkVIEWS in the near future. In the meantime, please visit our website at www.mustardseedfla.org for more information and become a fan of us on Facebook and Twitter!
