Since Central Florida’s “trial of the century” began, I have tried unsuccessfully to avoid to the Casey Anthony trial. It is on my Facebook Newsfeed. It is on my Twitter Timeline. It is everywhere. As a mother of a 3-year-old daughter, Casey Anthony is the last person I want to look at. Innocent until proven guilty I get. Stone cold expressions from a mother who has lost her daughter I do not.
Today I finally broke down and gave in. On WFTV’s website, they have the live stream of trial. Playing in the background as I work, I cannot help but feel for Casey’s father. Listening to a grown man cry brings tears to anyone’s eyes. Ever since I was a little girl, gender roles dictated boys don’t cry. Although I personally disagree with this (boys should cry – it is good for your soul), listening to George is sad. He sounds like a man defeated. This isn’t the type of crying that anyone should have to experience.
I am not a legal expert by any means. My knowledge begins and ends with NBC’s Law & Order and casual conversations with my mother-in-law who is an attorney. I cannot begin to speculate how the case will end. As a spectator though, I can offer this observation. The Anthony family will never be the same. The torment and grief for everyone involved seems insurmountable. Talk about one person’s actions causing everyone’s world to change in an instance.
Below are some Tweets that sum up the points I’ve touched on. I’d love to hear your responses!
