Fall District Picnic

I have decided to cancel the Annual Fall Picnic at Wadeview Park that was scheduled for this fall. This was a very hard decision and one I struggled with. We have had many successful district picnics over the past few years. They are great community events where neighbors meet neighbors and have an opportunity to meet with City staff and other elected officials to discuss issues of concern. Citizens have also donated tremendous amounts of food and money for Second Harvest Food Bank at these events.

However, I cannot in good conscience agree to spend taxpayer money for this event right now. I have often voted against spending City funds and have expressed concerns that the City’s finances are not sound. When money is tight – we should act accordingly. This is your taxpayer money. So I have decided to set aside this money so that it can be allocated to needed projects in our district.

Although we will not be holding the fall picnic, I encourage everyone to keep supporting good charities that help our neighbors in need. Second Harvest’s number is 407-295-1066 and their website is www.feedhopenow.org. They would appreciate your support and put it to good use for our neighbors in need.

Back to School Safety Tips

Students recently returned to school. Whether you have children in school or not, it’s good to remember that children will be riding buses and walking or biking to school. Keep the following safety tips in mind to help keep our kids safe this school year*.

Drivers:
• Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods and school zones.
• Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.
• Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
• Watch for children on and near the road in the morning and after school hours.
• Reduce any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Put down your phone and don’t talk or text while driving.
